Hi, my name is Bhargavi Lanka and I’m a Lead Strategist on Nemesis. A senior on the software and strategy subteams, I intend to double major in biomedical engineering and computer science.
Prior to joining Nemesis, I had seldom exposure to seeing the subjects I learned in school in practice. Upon the joining the team, I was able to see real-life applications of physics and various mathematics, which went into the calculations for the robot. Furthermore, I learned how various subteams can come together to deliver a great product, similar to the functions of a business. Gaining a plethora of technical experience, I learned to be more comfortable with things that I don’t already know how to do and to be more accepting of new experiences.
The 2016-2017 robotics season was my first season on Nemesis. As a first-year team member, I was able to primarily aid in prototyping, something I did for a majority of the season. However, I also had the unique opportunity of making all the bands for the robot, Eris, and the p-bot. I wrote a build journal for week five of build season, especially since I have always been apprehensive about my writing abilities.
I was also able to develop my interest in coding over the summer of 2017, as I coded a RFID-based attendance system for the team.
During the 2017-2018 season, I joined the strategy and software subteams. Working primarily with a vision based application as a software member, I learned the importance of vision. I also coded a personalized dashboard for the driver station. A strategy member, I worked on scouting and strategizing in real time during the competition season.
I am also a mentor to FTC team 14020. A software mentor of this new team, I have been able to strengthen my own skills and teach freshman and sophomores how to code a robot, as well as aid them in strategy and design techniques.
As the build season of 2018-2019 approaches, I look forward to coding the robot, strategizing, working with my teammates, and challenging myself to try new things.
