Hi, my name is Kayla Patterson and I am a senior and the head programmer of the Nao Robot at Robbinsville High School. This is my second year on the team and I am extremely excited for the season to begin. I have always had an interest in engineering. After taking Mrs. Wolfe’s Intro to Computer Science classes I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - programming.
Coding the Nao Robot on Nemesis has allowed me to gain a lot of great experiences. I have attended the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists Suppliers Day at the Javits Center. At this event I demonstrated the Nao Robot to New York chemists and showed them possibilities of technology. I also have displayed the Nao Robot to kids in my community. Working with this humanoid robot not only taught me a few things about technology but it exemplifies that the sky is limitless when it comes to ideas and creativity.
Outside of robotics and RHS you can find me on the dance floor at Front and Center Dance Studio, selling girl scout cookies, or playing the piano. At RHS, I am a varsity cheerleader, I play the flute in concert band, and I uphold numerous board positions of numerous clubs. This includes Secretary of the Multicultural Club, Treasurer of Math League, and President and Co-Founder of the Gender Liberation Club. I am also a part of the Tri-M Musical Honor Society, National Honors Society, World Language Honors Society, National Honors Society of High School Scholars, and Girls Who Code.
My future plans is to attend Hampton University with a major in Computer Science and a minor in math. I hope to gain my masters in cyber security and my doctorate degree in software engineering. My goal is to use my software knowledge and use it for cyber security. I hope to better my community and the world through cyber security. Due to the increase of technology, information is very vulnerable, I hope to fix these vulnerabilities. I hope to help people better their lives with technology. My name is Kayla Patterson, an aspiring software engineer and cyber securisist, and I am so fortunate to end my last year at Robbinsville High School on this amazing team.
